On several levels, this is a pretty good example of what NUBAA is all about.
You just know intuitively that NUBAA is filled with amazingly talented and accomplished individuals. However, I’ve had a special vantage point to observe this as NUBAA President. Wildcats are awesome in every field of endeavor. That’s a great reason to be happy about the NUBAA Summit and Salute to Excellence, which specifically celebrates our excellence.
On a more personal level, I’ve taken to collecting a library of sorts. I want this library to serve as a reminder to me and a monument to my kids that my friends and classmates are as talented a group as exists anywhere. They are in fact the people you read and see on TV. I specifically recall wandering past my son shortly after the NUBAA Summit and Salute to Excellence Gala (and having just watched with him the recent Man of Steel movie) holding his iPad, which featured a picture of him and Harry Lennix from The NUBAA Summit as the screensaver. I told him that was pretty cool. He responded that he’d never had a picture with someone on TV before. (“But wait. Your dad… oh, never mind… lol…)
Yes, NUBAA Nation is very talented. We do have stars of the screen and stage (big and small, Broadway and otherwise), accomplished directors, singers and authors. It is with a large dose of humility that I have attempted to nestle next to others in our ranks that have published and done quite well. Yet, that’s not really the point of this post.
The ever-evolving NUBAA is a testament to our increasing prowess expressed through partnering on some opportunities and referring along others, procurement and financial support of each other’s initiatives. In our example, we hold the ability to empower and support each other by each of us building our own library of CDs, DVDs and books or at least being aware of the wide variety of offerings so you can choose what sparks your interest.
Furthermore, embedded in our activities, NUBAA has several initiatives in place by which we activity support and foster success among our business executives and entrepreneurs. Take the time to become aware of them, participate, contribute and support!
- We have a NUBAA Business Directory, the purpose of which is to offer rosters of NUBAA member-owned businesses for consideration when you’re making purchasing decisions. If you’d like to join, fill out the below contact form.
- The NUBAA Summit and Salute to Excellence is a business and entrepreneur event with a wide variety of information and opportunity. The next Summit, to be held in Los Angeles (February 2016), will include a procurement fair.
- NUBAA has a growing relationship with the NU Office of Procurement and the Illinois Black Chamber of Commerce, both meant to extract opportunities for alumni.
- NUBAA has developed strategic relationships with corporate partners such as Merrill Lynch by which targeted information and career opportunities are available.
Stay active in NUBAA. We’ll be sure to let you know what our alumni are doing. I bet you’ll not enjoy the entertainment but it will be more meaningful because you can place a face or memory to the involved actor, singer or author! Support those from whence we came.
The effort is clear. The opportunities are numerous. Please help expand the effort. Participate. Control. Support.
